Skullcandy Wireless Earbuds – That Stay In Your Ear

The best Skullcandy earphones at a cheap price that we’ve tested are the Skullcandy Dime True Wireless. Although these earbuds have a basic, no-frills design, they offer solid overall performance at a lower price point.

Skullcandy Wireless Earbuds have a slightly bass-heavy sound profile that delivers a touch of extra thump and booms to your mixes. However, they’re still balanced enough for a variety of audio genres. They’re well-built, have a stable and breathable fit, and are rated IPX4 for water resistance.

Even though they lack active noise canceling and struggle to block out bus and plane noise passively, they can be a suitable choice in an office setting as they do a very good job of reducing ambient chatter.

Skullcandy Dime Wireless Earbuds – Skullcandy Wireless Earbuds Review

Skullcandy Dime Earbuds Designs

Skullcandy offers some of the most colorful headphones on the market. If you like to match your tech accessories to your outfits, they tend to have several color schemes for each model, including two or three-tone variants as well as camo/military color schemes.

Unfortunately, they have a somewhat bulky design, and using the controls can push the buds deeper into your ears, which may be unpleasant for some users.

Earbuds Build Quality

Most of the headphones from Skullcandy are pretty affordable. However, this may be due to their somewhat plasticky build quality. It’s better than some super cheap brands, but they don’t feel very durable compared to other affordable models.

Earbuds Performance

Talking about performance, the Skullcandy Dime offers decent sound quality for everyday use, thanks to its 6mm drivers which have a frequency response range of 20Hz to 20,000Hz. It covers the basics but doesn’t expect too much from these tiny earbuds.

The sound clarity is impressive but the bass might let you down at times. Due to the fit, the noise isolation is decent and it also cuts the unwanted external noise.

Earbuds Colours

The earbuds are available in three colors –Dark Blue/Green, Light Grey/Blue, and True Black. There are physical buttons on each earbud through which you can control the volume, skip songs, and take calls. The buttons aren’t really easy to press so you will have to settle with that.

Charging Case

The charging case is a good selling point, it is small and compact, and very convenient to carry around. You can put it as part of the keys you carry around if you are still the type of person like me who prefers physical keys for the house and car.

Even if you are one of those who manage everything through your cellphone, this case fits easily in your pocket so you can take it anywhere and have your headphones at hand when needed.

IPX Rating

The earbuds also feature an IPX4 rating for protection from sweat and water.

Sound and Mic Quality

Only Skullcandy headphones are custom-tuned to deliver the music you can feel. From the lyrics in your soul to the bass in your bones. The Skullcandy Dime TWS earbuds rock 6mm drivers that deliver a fairly detailed sound for the asking price.

It focuses more on mids and highs and balances the sound beautifully. I absolutely loved the sound signature with vocals and mids being clearly audible. Coming to the mic quality, there’s a single mic on each earbud for calls. I found the mic quality to be below average.

The stems are small and hence, the distance between the mic and the mouth is large. The other person had to struggle to identify the words you are using, no matter if you are in a quiet environment. It’s very hard to recommend this for the calls.

Earbuds Price Rang

Priced at Rs 2,249, the TWS earbuds have a short stem-like design and they can be used independently as any other TWS earphone. Skullcandy Dime True Wireless Earbuds sport physical controls on each earbud. For the price, these earbuds are pretty nice.

The ease of connectivity, once paired with a product is amazing, the sound is adequate, & the big plus for me is the clarity during phone calls. These are great value for the price, but there are some compromises obviously. I got them so I could listen to podcasts on dog walks and they paired with my Android phone with no problem.

Ear Comfort

The earpieces have a proper in-canal fit–I found the fit secure and the noise isolation decent. The tiny earbuds are comfortable for long-duration usage. I was able to wear them for about 40-50 minutes. Controls on the Skullcandy Dime would be tough for many; it gets really uncomfortable to press the stiff physical buttons while using the earphones. It’s better you rely on your phone to skip a song or change the volume.

Connectivity

It features Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity so the connection is pretty stable and quick every time you use them.

Perfect for Small Ears

Yeah, they’re that small.
At 2.45” long x 1.53” wide, the ingenious Dime case is designed to be super compact and easy to carry in any pocket or clipped to a keychain with the attached lanyard. Love these little things, I use them for the gym and they are perfect.

They don’t fall out even if I’m running full speed or lifting heavy. I traded in my Sesh Evo for these because of their size, the Evos looked giant on my ear and I even had to buy smaller earplugs for them. These fit with the small attachment out of the box which is nice and they look small and classy.

The sound quality is good, especially for the price and it’s so convenient to have in my keychain so I never forget them. 10/10 would recommend it.

Battery Life

Dime delivers 3.5 hours of listening time in the earbud and 2 full charges in the case. That’s 12 hours of the total battery. The battery is impressive, though. The earbuds can last 3.5 hours and the case can offer 8.5 hours of additional battery life, so you get a total of 12 hours on a single charge.

The charging case sports a Micro-USB port for charging, a USB-C would have added to the ease as most of the cables these days feature that.

Skullcandy Wireless Earbuds Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Inexpensive
  • Surprisingly powerful audio performance
  • Solid mic clarity
  • Water-resistant design

Cons:

  • Poor battery life
  • Cheap plastic build
  • Cumbersome on-ear controls

Overview

Skullcandy Dime headphones are an affordable and, so far, remarkable pair of truly wireless in-ear headphones. They have a crisp sound and long battery life. With a compact carrying and charging case, they are easy to carry in your pocket and can save you if you need headphones right away. You don’t really need to spend a hundred dollars or more on a truly wireless device, this pair may just be enough.

Conclusion

Skullcandy makes fashion-forward headphones. They have a pretty big selection of headphones for casual listening, sports, and gaming, but they lack a more specific lineup geared toward critical listening. Unfortunately, they’re not the ideal brand for those seeking a more neutral frequency response since most of their headphones favor a bass-heavy sound profile.

They’re also not as sturdy or as durable as some other headphones in their price range, but on the upside, their models are relatively affordable. Skullcandy is one of the favorite brands since 2010. Dime is the best-sounding earbuds at this price. I am totally surprised about the sound quality. Bass, treble, high and low everything is just perfect. Also, the call quality is very good too. I am fully satisfied with Dime.

Little Earbuds. Big attitude

Bring on those expensive, ‘look-at-me’ earbud brands. Dime backs down to no one. You get easy-to-use controls, a comfortable fit, and our signature Skullcandy Supreme Sound – all in a beautiful tiny package (for a beautifully tiny price).

Should You Buy the Skullcandy Dime TWS?

The Skullcandy Dime is a good value-for-money product. They sound good, have a unique design, and are comfortable and lightweight but lack too many other features that are easily available nowadays in the Rs 2,500 price segment. These earbuds neither support ANC nor have any app support, so you can’t customize the sound according to your preference.

The Dime earbuds lack a Type-C port for fast charging support and the battery life is pretty average too. The mic is also of low quality. But if you are someone who loves the Skullcandy branding and its sound signature, go for it.
